These horns are fun to play, and the lacquer and engraving are really eye-catching. Is it really worth losing $2000-3000+ just to be the one to open the box the first time, versus having something nearly new with a proper setup? And any new one you buy will also need this same setup and will be worth around $4500 as soon as you drive it off the lot. This horn looks new but saves you thousands of dollars versus buying a new one. This horn is better than new because the factory pads have had a fresh setup including replacing several of them for increased playability and better feel and reliability down the road. These are the best sounding modern Selmers in my opinion, and actually do play similarly to a vintage Selmer, but with more modern ergonomics. It has been played a little but not much, and is an enormously better deal than buying a new one. Near mint example of a Selmer Reference 54 alto.
